Join, Join, Join!

Good Morning!

So....are you excited that today is the last day of May? I sure am!

I knew that this CAL would be fun but I didn't expect it would be so much work! Don't get me wrong, this has been really awesome and I learned so much but I'm ready to move on...to work on other blankets!

But there is one more thing we need to do to get this finished and that is join these squares together! So, here is the link to Adaiha's lovely blog and the tutorial she did just for us to show off her joining method!

I've been using her method to join my squares all month and it is fast and easy to do! Not only that, but Adaiha takes amazing pictures that you will show you all the steps you need to make a beautiful blanket!

So, I'm going to do the linking party for our finished blankets at the top of the "Square a Day in May" page that can be found at the top of this blog and in this post....take your time adding your blankets...there is no need to rush...I'm going to keep this linking party open until September!

Thanks again everyone for participating, this has been the most amazing experience!

Day 30: Kaleidoscope Blossom Square!

Congratulation! Weather you started early, on time or late, if your making today's square you are pretty much done!

This has been a wonderful experience, not only have I learned so much but I've met some wonderful people who have shared their lives with me and you!

Thank you everyone for getting involved and I promise that next Square a Day in May we will do smaller squares!

So, with out further ado, here is today's square,

Kaleidoscope Blossom Square by Chris!

This square was fun to make. I love the rosy pink color, every time I use it, the square turns out great! You can't really tell with this picture though, if there is one thing I've learned from this CAL it's that I take crappy pictures!

Tomorrow, we start joining!

Day 29: Yarn Clouds!

Wow, 1 day left! Can you believe that!

In my haste to get as many squares as possible on to my blanket, I put today's square with the others before snapping a picture! Silly me.

So, here is today's square....

This is Yarn Clouds by Amelia!

As you probably noticed, there is no Ravelry page for this lovely pattern so I don't really know how to share it with others! Any help anyone?

Update: There is now a Ravelry page for this pattern, the link is above! Thanks Amelia for doing that for us! Please add your pictures!

I loved making this pattern! It was easy to learn and fun to do, and the results was great.

You may recognize this yarn because it is the left overs from the baby blanket I have been work on and finished this week....I really love these colors and wanted to keep a little for myself!

Wishing you all a great Sunday,
m

Day 28: Peace Sign!

Howdy!

Today is a busy day for us....we need to go to the dump this morning, then to Beeton for the Honey and Garden Festival and this afternoon Padt Stock in remembrance of a life cut short.

It seems fitting that today's square have a peace sign in the middle because Patrick was such a peaceful young man! He loved music and his friends and was so full of kindness it shone out of him. Rest in peace, Padt!

Much love everyone!

PS...Sorry for the ugly picture...I have to work on my picture taking abilities!

Day 27: Granny's More Complex Star!

Almost done!

I have one more square to make....and I'm so excited to be done! I have 5 more squares to add to my blanket and then I have to make a boarder (any suggestions Adaiha?) and it will go on our bed for the summer!

Here is today's square....

Granny's More Complex Star by Jacqui!

I love this pattern but not the color pattern! You can't really see the cool detail in the middle but it turned out great and I would do it again....can't wait to see all your beautiful squares!

Have a great crochet day!

Day 26: Blooming Lace!

Good morning!

So I had a panic attack last night when I couldn't find the picture for today's square...then I thought that maybe I just didn't make today's square and I panicked all over again. I tried to be really organized with this CAL, keeping all the squares in the right order and take all the pictures at one time (except for the last few that I needed to make...and still haven't finished. Lucky for me, the square was created but not photographed until this morning, when it was already on attached to the blanket. Kade took this opportunity to also have a photo shoot with blanket so you can see how much is done...

Blooming Lace by Melinda!

This was a fun and simple project that I don't think I had any problems with. All of Melinda patterns that I've made have been really good and easy to follow!

Here or some pictures of Kade and the blanket! I have 5 more squares to attach (2 of which I still need to make) and then do a boarder!

Day 25: Birthday Flower!

Happy Birthday Mom!

I picked this pattern for today based solely on it name for today is my moms birthday! We got to hang out with her all day Saturday but today she will be working so we will call her before we head off to school and work. Luckily, my parents are planning to come visit tomorrow so Kade and I will attempt to make some sort of birthday cake (I suck at baking) or maybe I will go buy something from the local bakery! Either way, we are going out for dinner which is always fun and Kade will also get to spend more time with her, which he loves!

So, in honor of my mom, here is today's square!

This is Birthday Flower by Chris!

Sorry this picture isn't the best but I really like this square. And my mom did too!

Hope you all have a great day!

Day 24: Bright and Cheery!

It is not bright or cheery here in my neck of the woods! We had such an amazing weekend and now the weather is gross and gloomy!

Anyways, here is today's square....

I love the way this square worked out! The colors are amazing and it looks great!

Day 23: Versailles!

Happy Victoria Day!

I am so glad for this long weekend...not only has the weather been amazing but I've got tons of crocheting done, spent time with friends and family and got yard work done!

I officially finished the baby blanket I've been working on and made a hat to go with it. I will post pictures soon!

Today we look forward to a play date, laundry and more crocheting! I still have a few more squares left to make for the square a day that I have been avoiding but we are coming to the end so them must be made!

And here is today's square!

Versailles by Melinda!

Hope you have a lovely day, wherever you are!

Sorry everyone, I put the wrong linking party up before...here's the right one!

Day 22: Imposible Hexagon!

Good morning!

We had ourselves an amazing day yesterday at my parents house. The weather was unbelievable, the food was perfect and the company great. I don't think the weather is going to be as nice today but this will be a good clean up and hang out day...oh, and crochet! I must crochet today!

Here is Impossible Hexagon by Stramenda!

I really like this pattern and I love the colors I used!

Oh, just an update, I'm pretty sure the "cold" I've been suffering from is actually allergies. I've never really had allergies before but there is so much pollen in the air right now and I'm suffering! Any suggestions?

Hope you have a great Sunday!

Day 21: Georges Granny!

Good Morning!

I'm up bright and early so I have time to eat, post and then run over to Step class. I have not been working out as much as I should be these days because I've been working late and I need to spend time with my kid, so we got up early today and off I will go!

The weather outside is lovely and we are heading over to the Horticultural Society's annul plant sale over at the local high school after I work out and then over to my parents house for my moms birthday and fire works. It is the Victoria Day long weekend up here in Canada, so there will be a lot of fireworks going off.

My plan for this weekend is to make the last few squares need for that baby blanket I started over the Easter weekend and then work on my Square a Day blanket some more! I will show pictures on Monday.

And now for today's square!

Great pattern! Hope you all enjoy making it as much as I did!

Day 20: Eye of the Beholder!

Howdy....

I'm an excited girl today because I ordered my Christmas yarn yesterday! I know, I know, Christmas is more then 6 months away but I never order yarn online so this is such a treat for me! I've decided to do the same pattern for everyone but just change the color....this will be a lot easier for me and it means I can start right away! I love the pattern I've chosen and I'm looking forward to working with the yarn from Knit Picks! If you've never been over to their website you must jump over there! I want everything and my wishlist is growing and growing!

Anyhoo,
Here is Eye of the Beholder by Jessica!

I really liked working this pattern and will do it again for sure! It would make a great center to a blanket if your interested in doing that!

Day 19: Lady Bug Square!

Doesn't this square make you think of spring....we are well into spring here in southern Ontario and are suffering from a week of showers what will hopefully bring lots of flowers....at the very least, our lawn looks amazing!

This square reminds me of my friend Liz, who I lived with in university and think of often even though we don't get to hang out ever. She was one of the most amazing people I ever discovered and has taught me so much. As soon as I saw her I knew this was a person I wanted to know and I'm so grateful that she let me into her life....Her much older brothers used to call her Ladybug, so she has always loved them and I love her!

This is Lady Bug Square by Amelia

It is not quite done, I still need to add the spots and line down the center but I still love it!

Enjoy,
m

Day 18: Starburst Flower

Hello Hello Hello!

It would seem that the blast of stuff I gave myself yesterday has kept my cold at bay and I am so grateful for that!

Today the ice cream shop in town opens up so Kade and I will be heading over there this afternoon. We are not about treats in our family and do not keep ice cream in the house but there is nothing like the first cone of the season!

Moving right along,

This is Starburst Flower by Donna!

I love how logical Donna's patterns are and how they seem to always turn out how they are suppose to!

Kade, my 4.5 year old, picked the colors for his square and I think they sum him up perfectly. That kid is bright and sunny and seems to be always shining!

Have fun with this one,
m

Day 17: Lemony Lime Square!

So, I think I'm getting sick!

A super busy week at work where I have to work late 4 of the 5 days and I'm getting sick. I hate those days when you wish you could be at home with a cup of tea and a warm (handmade!!!) blanket but instead your doing work. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and the youth I work with but when you are not feeling good all you want is to be at home watching a movie and crocheting....Thank goodness for the long weekend that is fast (but never fast enough) approaching!

Anyways, here is the square for today!

This is Lemony Lime by Donna!

Really fun simple pattern that I will do again for sure!

I don't know about you all, but crocheting has become a real grounding point to me! When I'm stressed, upset, tired, happy, excited or wanting to show someone I love just how much I love them, I crochet. I make things that are simple and fun or sometimes complex and confusing but every pattern I've ever worked on taught me something and I am so glad for the lovely people who take the time to write down that patterns they create so we can make them too.

I hope you all enjoy this square and I can't wait to see your work,

Day 16: Alter Ego!

So, so tired this morning so I'm going to make it quick!

Alter Ego by Jacqui.

I thought this pattern was going to be a lot harder then it was! I had a lot of fun making this and think it would make a great hat...I know just the person to make it for for X-mas.

Take care everyone,

Day 15: More V's Please!

Happy Sunday!

The rain has finally stopped here in little old Alliston but the sun isn't coming out! That's okay, this makes for a great crochet day! I can smell the sweet smell of breakfast a brewing and my tummy is hungry!

But don't you worry, I haven't forgot about this days Square!!!!

This lovely lady is More V's Please by Melinda!

I really love Melinda's patterns! They are always simple to read and easy to make. A friend of mine cleaned out her stash when I started this CAL and this is some of the yarn.

I wanted to take a moment to thank all you lovely crocheters who have be crocheting along with me! This is the first time I've organized anything like this but have been having a lot of fun crocheting and seeing what everyone else is working on.

Some people in the Facebook group have been asking about another CAL and I have been toying with the idea! This has been super fun! So, I'm wondering what you all think? Would you be into another CAL? Let me know!

Have a great Sunday,
m

Day 14: Violet Crochet Square!

Howdy!

It is raining here and kind of gloomy but thankfully warm, so I can deal with that! Last night I worked on some dish cloths, as per my moms request, and they turned out great! I don't like working with cotton, it doesn't slide as much as I would like but cotton makes great dish clothes!

This is Violet Crochet Square by Jacqui!

I loved making this square but again, I don't like the colors I used! I can't believe we are almost half way through this wild adventure...it makes me want to start organizing another crochet along but I can't think of what to make....I was thinking socks but I don't now how interested people would be in making socks.....any thoughts?

Have a great Saturday and see you tomorrow!

Day 13: Multi Colour Flower!

Happy Friday the 13th!

Sorry I didn't get my square out sooner today but when I tried to log on to blog spot this morning before work it wouldn't let me...anyone else experience that?

Moving right along, here is the square of the day!

This is Multi Colour Flower by Fiona!

I really liked making this pattern but didn't realize until I got to the end that it was in UK terms....needless to say, my flower is really big! But I love it!

What are your plans for the weekend? My son is going to spend the night with my parents which means lots of crocheting and sleeping in!

If your in Ontario like me, I hope you enjoy the warm wet weather we are going to be having...if not, hope you have a great weekend!

Looking forward to seeing your squares!

Day 12: Grandma's Heart Square!

Good morning, good morning!

I can't believe we are on day 12 already. This has been really fun and I'm glad so many of you have been getting involved and hanging out with me!

Today's square is.....

Grandma's Heart Square by Carola!

I really like the colors I used for this pattern but the square didn't turn out how I wanted it too! I'm sure it will still look great in my blanket though!

Can't wait to see what you all make of it,

Day 11: Flowery Square!

Good Morning!

I'm tired this morning and haven't been doing much crocheting other then the blankets I've been working on....but I do have a square to show you!

This is Flowery Square by my dear friend, Adaiha!

Adaiha is one of my inspirations for this whole CAL and while we've only been blog friends for a few months, I always get excited my her blog!

I loved making this square but didn't realize when I added it to the list that it is only 8 inch. This is a quick fix by adding more rows of dc.

You should really check out her blog and this really great post about blocking! I haven't been blocking my squares but I know some of you are, so I thought it would be great to share. Adaiha is the queen of the granny square as far as I'm concerned!

Don't forget to link your pictures!

Day 10: Framed Flower!

Good Morning!

Hope all is well in your world! I have the morning off so I'm going to do some groceries, work out and crochet, of course....what are your plans for the morning?

Here is the square of the day!

Framed Flower by Sally!

I love this square! I love the colors I used and the texture of the square! I think this is my favorite square....it will have a spot front and center in the blanket!

Day 9: Falling Star!

Good morning!
Don't have much time to type so I will make this quick!

I really liked this pattern! It worked up fast and looks lovely.

Happy crochet,

Day 8: On The Huh

Happy Mother's Day!

We are not big celebrators in our family but we do know how to sleep in, something that rarely happens since we had our son! So this morning my love got up at 6am to let me sleep in and I just got up....at 9am!!!! What a lovely mother's day gift!

But I must get on with the day! We have friends from the city coming over and dinner with my mother in law to prepare for...and a square to post....so here it is!

On The Huh by Jacqui!

I thought this pattern would be a lot harder then it was! It was fast to make and fun! So fun! I will make this one again for sure!

Take care everyone, and have a great day!

Day 7: Purple Passion Heart!

Welcome to the weekend!

I have been work hard on birthday and mother's day gifts which I will show off tomorrow but for today, here is the square!

Purple Passion Heart by April!

I really liked this square but as you already know if your making it, it is not 12 inch! I'm so sorry about that! I just continued making dc around until it was the right size.

Hope you enjoying crocheting this and please link!

Day 6: Victorian Dream

I just woke up from a great sleeping in session! What a great way to start a day off!

I've been working a lot lately, and while I love my job and the youth I work with, days off are so nice....exceptionally when I have so many projects on the go! Not only am I slowly working on 3 blankets of different sizes, I also have to make 2 mothers day gifts and 2 birthday gifts by Sunday...oh goohttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifdness! I will post pictures on Monday for you all to see!

Anyways, today's square is lovely!

This is Victorian Dream by Cindy!

This square was fun, fast and easy to make and I love how lacy it is. I used a satin yarn and so this square is soft and very fluid!

Hope you have fun making it!

Day 5: Starfire!

Good morning!

Thankfully, my lovely husband spent all day yesterday wiping my computer clean and putting it back together! I'm am so glad to be using my computer again and sharing with you today's square....

This is Starfire by Melinda!

I wanted this square to have more of a vintage feel so I picked what I thought were more folky colors. I love the dusty rose color and all the squares that I used this color turned out great!

Hope you enjoy crocheting this one and thanks for checking in!

Day 4: Blooming Granny

Isn't it always the way that when you need the computer the most it goes crazy on you! Last night I downloaded something that made my computer mad and now My Love has to reformat! Lucky for me, I still had all the pictures of my squares saved on my camera but I will need to upload them to photo bucket or something...what website do you use to store your photos?

Anyways, here is the square for today!

This Blooming Granny by Melinda!

I loved making this square! It is going to go in the very center of my blanket because I think it is my favorite and because it will be a great way to figure out how many dc cluster you will need to make along a side.

I also thing this would make a wonderful center to a baby blanket (Becky H, I'm talking to you!) You will see this square again on this blog, believe in that!

I hope others enjoy making it as much as I did,

Don't forget to link and check out the other linkers blogs! Everyone loves comments!

Day 3: Maggie Square!

Sorry I'm posting so late...we had a rough morning and I had to run to work so I couldn't get this beautiful square up!

This is 'Maggie Square' by Drew!

I had not one problem with this square and I would most defiantly make it again. I did forget to do back loop only on a couple of rows, which was a shame because I really like the effect it has on a row. I am a lazy crocheter and didn't go back and fix the...mostly because this blanket will live the rest of its life on my living room sofa, so I don't see the need for perfection on things I make for my own family...sorry family!

I do want to take a moment and remind everyone to leave extra chain spaces in the corners of the last row! I have started attaching the squares that I've done and now realize just how important it is to leave at least 2 chain spaces in each corner. The method I suggest using requires you to do 2 dc clusters in each corner and you need room to do that. Just a suggestion!

Monday, May 2, 2011

Day 2: Kata

Good Morning!

Thanks everyone for sharing yesterday....I hope the first squares are treating you well and I want to let you know that while some of the squares (or the size of them anyways) may be challenging, this CAL is meant to be fun!

And now....KATA!

By Penny!

This square was fast and fun to make and I would make it again in a heart beat! But, I hate the colors I used!

I am a very relaxed crocheter and not the type to go back and fix mistakes, which is on of the reasons I like crocheting better then knitting. So when I don't like something...I just keep going!

I know you all will have lovely squares to share, and I'm looking forward to seeing them!

Joining Squares!

Good evening! I hope this day was full of crocheting and fun! I spend the day at work wishing I was crocheting but what is a girl to do!

Anyways, Adaiha over at 'things to make and do' has posted a wonderful tutorial on her favorite method of joining squares! If you haven't already checked out her blog, you should head over there fast! She is doing a square a day for a whole year (!!!!) and is where I got the inspiration to do this CAL.

Here are just a few pictures from her tutorial....which you can find here.

And don't worry, I will be posting this at the end of the month also! If you are just starting your squares, you can attach them as you go or wait until the end and do them all at once!

Once again, thanks for stopping in, and happy crocheting!

Day 1: Amethyst Square!

Wow, I can't believe the day has arrived! I am so excited to show off my first square and see all the beautiful work everyone is doing.....

Because I just can't wait....here she is!

This is the Amethyst Square by Donna!

This pattern was really fun and fast to make and I would totally make it again!

Remember to link your squares both here (below) and on the Ravelry page!

Can't wait to see all your lovely squares,
