Fingerless Gloves

My Girlfriend In Law, Cindy, requested elbow length fingerless gloves for her Christmas gift this past year and after looking over a few patterns she picked these ones. They were super fun to make, took no yarn at all and are totally customizable. I would make them again (yes, I'm talking to you, Cindy) and suggest making them for yourself...the pattern can be found here

And now for the pictures! (Thanks Cindy for taking great photos for me...or should I be thanking Nick?)

On a side note, my lovely partner has spend literally the whole day making beeswax candles (he is a bit of a perfectionist). It has been quite some time since we've made candles and our whole house smells oh so sweet. I will post some pictures but if you interested in buy some candles from us for a very reasonable price, please let me know.

Thanks for stopping in,
m

Because I needed to share....

Just found the photo's I took on my phone of the hat, mits, and scarf set I made for Holly for her birthday.

I asked Holly what I should make her for her birthday, what she needed. I hate making things for people that they will never use (yes, I know I am writing this in the post right after my post about doilies, the most useless things I've ever made) but I like people to get something from me that they will really use!

She told me she needed mittens, so what do I do, I make her a scarf. I used the pattern for the Love Scarf, and it turned out lovely, if not a little too short. Then I thought, this pattern would make a great hat. And within a couple of hours, there was a set. But I still needed to make mittens and I wanted them to match...my mom told me that matching is really in this season not that I ever match.

I couldn't decide how to do the mittens. I was thinking I would make fingerless gloves and work the pattern back and forth until it would fit around her wrist but Holly didn't want fingerless loves. Then I found this really great pattern for gloves that I wanted to test for Becky and decide to make a brown pair Holly.

When I had worked the main part of the mittens and added the thumb, the wrist just came to me. I was able to use the same pattern as the scarf around the wrists, everything coming together.

It is hard to make something for some one when they are far away but I am told that they are well loved! As is Holly!

Doilies!

My doilies are done! They are amazing and were so much fun to make.

The first one I made is for my sons teacher for their classroom. Kade goes to a Montessori school and his teacher is always looking for fun things to decorate the classroom. I had some pink thread that I picked up second hand and when I found a doily that had hearts in it, I knew it was meant to be.

Here is a close up of the doily. Can you see the hearts?

Now now now, even better then the heart doily for Rachel is my very large sunflower doily I made for Becky. This pattern was fun to make but turned out much larger then I had expected. First a close up!

Doily Daze....

I recently discovered that I love making doilies, something I never thought I would enjoy.

To be honest, up until a few weeks ago, I just couldn't understand why anyone would want to make anything (even a bookmark) with a hook smaller then 4mm. Then I found some pretty pink thread at a local thrift store and thought maybe I would try making something out of. I couldn't believe it when a the pattern I decided on called for a 1.5mm hook and just couldn't justify using something so small. So I rebelled a little and decide on a 1.75 hook.

It was my grandmothers hook, like almost all my hooks are, and almost instantly I felt I was channeling her and her ability. My grandmother and I never saw eye to eye about anything but when I'm holding one of her tiny hooks in my hand and working the thread as I'm sure she did I feel connected to a women who seemed to battle with me about everything.

My pretty pink doily is done now and waiting to be pressed. I've moved on too a sunflower doily that is much bigger then I thought it would be. Doilies, I have found, take longer then other projects but are totally worth the time and effort.

I will post pictures and the links to the patterns I've been working on tomorrow, after the projects are done and ironed out. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Blogging adventures!

My lovely cousin (who I wish lived closer) suggested some crafty mama blogs to me this morning and I've decided to add them to my blog so others can see them.

I've never been a big blog reader...not that I don't love them, they are wonderful forms of self expression, I just never make the time or remember the links. So now I will have not excuse! They are right there on my blog!

I love peeking into other people lives and find their skills very inspiring. I hope my blog and other like it inspire others!

Happy crafting and blog reading!

Chap Stick Holder!

Okay, okay, this is my first ever, published pattern!!!

Very exciting.

My lovely son decided he needed a holder for his chap stick, so he could hang it on his bag and take it with him to school. I looked for other patterns but couldn't find one I liked so I made one up.

Here it is!

You will need:

A small amount of yarn
A 5mm crochet hook
A key chain ring

Chain 3.

Row 1: Make 9 dc in the first chain. Slip stitch to join at the top of first chain. (Chain 3 counts as first dc here and throughout.) 10 dc.

Row 2: Chain 3, dc in the back loop of each st around. 10 dc.

Row 3: Chain 3, dc in each st around. 10 dc.

Repeat row 3 until you have reached desired length. I did 6 rows in total.

Next row: chain 4. Single crochet in next st. sc around. 6 sc in chain 4 space. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Put key chain ring through the chain 4 space. Hang from keys and enjoy!

These are super easy and fast to make. I have made lots with several different colors. Have fun with it!
